rant: America's Tire co *w/update*

I've been there about 5 times in the past 6 years.
One of my tires is flat.
It's fixed for free.
Every time.
It's great right?

Well,
My girlfriend's car gets a flat. I didn't have time to go myself.
She calls me this morning after she arrives at America's Tire co.
"the tech said they can't fix it, it's too dangerous even though it still looks new. They want to charge a pro-rate for a replacement even though it looks new."

Not so great anymore. Or at least for a girl.

UPDATE:
So I went to my local America's tire.
20 minutes later, free repaired tire.
*good times~

If the puncture is too close to the sidewall, it might not be fixable. Or if it was flat and she drove on it for too long, it might not be fixable.

The nail is in the middle of the thread, and got driven on for tops 2 days.

but wait, it's possible her flat isn't fixable.....

Sarcasm will get you nowhere, especially since your OP was so detailed to begin with. If you had told us the nail was in the middle of the tread (not thread), maybe we wouldn't have told you otherwise. Plus, driving on a punctured tire for 2 days isn't going to help anything.

It's a rant.
I'm ranting about my experience vs. hers.
me knowing the details.
then ranting about it.
It doesn't need further deducing.
just throwing you something to read.

who knows, maybe it will hit someone else's chord.
It's the off topic section, not the dissection department.

Not all flats are fixiable but maybe they are pulling the wool over your gf's eyes. I have had good experinece with most tire shops especailly with flats. It cost them nearly nothing to fix which is why they offer it. It gives them more leverage for a sale.

What kind of tire? Most places won't repair Z rated tires(and possibly other speed rated tires), they will only replace them.

yea, I figured it's really a toss up, and I've had nothing but good experiences with them.
And the total opposite with any of their competition.

I just felt we were pitched a curve this morning, that's all.

Yokohama
HR's
installed 10/2005
rotated quarterly
with 90% thread
driven 10 miles to work, and 10 miles back.
street
I filled it back up the day I saw it flat.
The next day, it went back down about 20%
then she drove it to the shop

When I got a piece of glass that was about 2" long in one of my tires, the only thing I had to pay was the new warrentee on the new tire. (had 8000 miles on it). About $20 for a $115+other stuff tire.

<-- has had very good experiences with America's tire.

Edit:
They replace them free _IF_ you get the warrentee. Did you get it?

Why not take it to a different America's Tire retail store with you as the customer?

If they say it's not fixable, then you know they probably aren't trying to scam you.

If they say it is fixable, then say "hmmm... that's weird. A different America's Tire told me girlfriend just yesterday she would have to replace it..."

quite possible that the nail damaged the belts badly enough that it can't be repaired. Happens...I went thru it a couple of years ago...almost dead center in the tire...ruined it...bought 2 to replace one...I always match tires unless I can get the EXACT same tire, and mine were discontinued...thanks goodyear...
