"deep" isn't even an applicable descriptor of a good realistic crime/drama.
the wire is only "profound" if you consider that no other cop show comes close to accurately portraying the interactions politics, street life, police work, law, education, etc.
if after watching 11 epsodes you still think McNulty can be succinctly described as a wreckless Irishman with a heart of gold, then... well... wow.
