Random System Freezes

I built a PC for my parents that is randomly freezing. I can't pinpoint it to a particular application or piece of hardware. The temps appear fairly normal (35 sys, 49 cpu). I have flashed the BIOS to the current version, run memtest on the RAM, and formatted and completely reinstalled Win2k. I have also run a virus scan with updated definitions and installed all the windows updates and the blaster worm patch. The hardware list is below. Any ideas? Thanks.

Gigabyte GA-7DXE board
XP1700
512 MB Micron PC 2700 (1 stick)
Asus V7100 vid card (updated detonator drivers)
40 GB Seagate HDD - model ST340810A
3COM 3C900B-TPO NIC
Pine 5.1 Sound Card (CMedia 8738 chipset)
400 W Duro brand power supply
generic CD/RW
Samsung CD-ROM
floppy drive

Carp 1812, you don't list the case so I can't assume much. The temps listed are ok, but it might not be accurate (unless your using an external thermal sensor). AMD is notorious for overheating. Your heatsink/fan may not be properly seated (I'm going to assume you used a good quality thermal paste). I have a good friend who had serious lock-ups with his AMD system (2200+). Heat was always his issue. Try moving more cool air in/ hot air out.

I have been running the system with the cover off for a few days and it's still happening. I will try reseating the heat sink, but it appears to be OK. Anybody have any problems with any of these hardware combinations before?

Bump for more opinions. Reseated the heatsink (with thermal paste) and it didn't fix it. Temps are still the same also, so I don't think the heatsink wasn't seated right before.

your best bet is to try pulling out PCI devices one by one to see if any may be causing an IRQ conflict. I had a 56k modem give me problems like that a long while back.
