Random Shut Downs

Ok, here recently my computer will just shut down with no warning or clue as to why at very random times. I could let it run all day without touching it and then once i start using it, 15 mins later it will just cut off. I have just removed the processor and applied Arctic Silver 5.0 and the video card i have is old so i dont think it's that. I found out that the heat sink fan was not hooked up to the CPU_FAN jack on the mobo and just recently fixed that. I thought that those two things might have had it licked. The machine runs steady around 31 C and does not seem to overheat. I do have a L-Shaped desk that has a little cubby area to place the tower in. It seems to run fine on just the desktop but when it gets in the cubby is when my problems might seem to arise. Could this be the issue?! Does anyone have any ideas as to why a CPU would just shut off with no reason and then start back up again with no issues? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

My first thought would be that your CPU is overheating and the motherboard is kicking in and shutting the system down. If you're sure this isn't the case, it's probably you're powersupply. Also, you may want to get a UPS so that the PC is getting a consistent electrical signal.

I dont think it's the PSU because it's a 400w running an AMD 2600+ sempron. Only running 512 mb ram so this thing is not really pulling alot of power. I would think that the CPU would not overheat because i have arctic silver plus a huge ass heat sinc. Thanks for the suggestins though. Although i am open to it still with a justifable explanation

what kind of PSU? They can fail after a period of time, especially if they are of subpar quality.
Judging by the 2600, you've probably had that pc a couple of years. i wouldn't rule out the power supply just yet

actually i just built it with the 2600, its cheap and it works not a big gamer just more of a internet surfer and work stuff. The PSU came with my Rosewill case, heres the link:

Rosewill case and PSU

Im going to look at PSU later tonight and see if that is the issue with one that my buddy has.

Usually, a psu that comes bundled will be a pain in the butt.
Try a rep brand psu - antec/tagan etc. Very important to have a quality power supply unit.

I replaced the PSU this weekend and everything seems to be working ok. I will let you know after about a week if it passes the test. Thanks for the suggestions again
