Random shooting, seven dead in Kalamazoo, Michigan...

Horrible. I think this time for a motive I'm putting my money on him being strung out on meth. I have no clue about the shooter other than its a single 45 year old white man, so probably not right.

And the folks who have immense power to do something about this is hoping nothing gets done about this, because slippery slope is a slippery slope.

It's pretty amazing how some folks can just turn their backs on horrors like this in order to keep their fears alive.

This guy lived about 2 miles from my house. Had a wife and kids and sold insurnace for a living. Apparenlty he just went off the deep in. I was actually out for my wife's 30th birthday sat night and we got put on lockdown inside of the bar. They captured him about 200 yards from where my truck was parked.

One of the victims was a corworker that i directly worked with a couple of days a week. Great guy and is gone way to soon.

Too close for comfort and im glad they caught him. Now if only we had the death penalty in our state.

Based on his picture he won't be labeled as a terrorist or a thug.

No, you daft dolt, because terrorism actually has a definition beyond "killing people at random for no stated goals or ideologies", and he's (rightfully) being called things far, far worse than "thug", because he is.

So, sounds like someone who went off the deep end, people recognized he went off the deep end, at least some people tried to get help, and no one seemed to care enough to look closely.

Seems to sum up our mental health care system quite well. "Hey, this guy is nuts, maybe you should take a closer look." "Meh. If he isn't a serial killer, we don't care." "Hey, he's a serial killer now!" "Hey, we're right on it. Look, the governor credited us with doing a fantastic job at preventing an even worse situation."

Seems the guy is off his rocker in major ways, and though the red flags were there he was left alone (nobodies business). Tough to say just how these folks can be discovered before their crimes.

I mean, I can draw up scenarios.... a buddy system. Someone who is responsible for calling you out and reporting on you to authorities. Is that something we value, is that where we're at as a society? How far do we go in search of solutions to random acts of violence?
