Random restarts---im worried

Hi guys, over the past couple day my pc has been having random restarts, and i cant figure out whats wrong. I tried raising the vcore, but it hasnt worked. My temps rarely ever get higher than 42 C or so too.

Voltages are all fine...no viruses, spyware, etc. Ive also been getting some BSODs.

Would a windows reformat be a possible solution, maybe something got corrupted? Could it be a souncard driver issue (i say this because even though it was fine for a while and just now happened, if i do get bsods when it restarts, i get a nasty gurgling noise)?

Thanks alot...im open to any suggestions.

Be scared - very scared. Not good at all. Something is dying inside your computer.

OK, what is this poor sick beast of yours. How old is it?

Bad motherboard. Take it out and sell it to some chump quick before it dies. When he comes back to you complaining about how it randomly restarts, tell them they must have damaged it during installation.

I will keep the above in mind if I ever see you selling anything in the FS/T Forum.... :disgust:

How old is this computer? It could just be that the PSU is going. Another thing that causes random reboots is marginal RAM. I would Memtest your RAM.

A new mobo? Boo...it may come to that in the end. This is no more than 4-5months old, just built. Specs are as follows:

A64 3400+ (NC) | BFG 6800GT OC | Fortron 530w PSU |
DFI Lanparty UT | 1GB Kingston Value RAM | Audigy 2 ZS Gamer |
Diamondmax10 w/ 16mb cache| Antec P160| Logitech Z2200 2.1 | NEC 3500A

My money may be on the ram as well...

Do you have the automatic restart on erros checked in windows??? It may be masking the BSOD...It will just reboot instead of giving you the blue screen with some info that may help you...

Go into start - Control Panel - system - advanced - startup and recovery - uncheck the auto restart....

In my experience a flaky power supply restarts really at the end of its life but does it rather quickly and often or particularly when loading...Other PSU issues cause freezes more then restarts

Thanks...ill try all of the above, appreciate it. Ive memtested a few times, and will do so again...no errors though. Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming guys 😛

What are you doing during re-boots? Random or are you stressing the computer? Are you using a UPS. A burp in the power could cause your computer to restart if the BIOS is set to re-start after power falure.

I was getting random restarts before. No blue screen, no nothing, the comp would just turn off. If this is the problem you are having, try new RAM. SOMETHING is shorting out your system, and on my rig it was the RAM. If it's not the RAM, it's gonna be the motherboard.
