Recently I put together a system with athlon xp 1800+, ak31a mobo, 512 mb ddr, win2k. Every once in a while, for no readily apparent reason, the thing will restart--as if the reset switch has been pressed. It's not running too hot, the temp is fine. I've reinstalled the OS and even tried win xp--to no avail. I even unplugged the reset switch, in case it was being jarred. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem here? I'm plum stumpted.

It may be the power supply, for that system 350W should be fine. I had the same problem on 2nd machine, Duron 800, abit kt7a, 256 mb. It had a 300W psu in there, but it was extremely cheap, rebooted for no reason, temps were alright. I got an antec 350W and haven't had any problems since.

Not sure what your memory timings are but lower them to lowest possible and check it then or try some different ram... ;)
