Random Reboots

For the last 4-5 weeks, I've been having problems with my system rebooting every few days. It seems completely random - no set time between reboots, no event that triggers it. Sometimes it happens overnight after it's just been sitting for a few hours, other times while I'm just typing. I don't think it's frozen up when I've been playing a game, which is the only thing I can think of that might stress it enough to cause some sort of reboot.

The only somewhat recent change to the system is an update in video drivers. I'm running a GF 6800 GT with the 66.93 drivers fron NVIDIA. I can't remember exactly how long ago I installed them, but it's the only change I've made to the system in about five months. Also running XP, P4 1.6 OC'ed to 2.4 (has been for 3+ years with no problems and stock cooling 😀). On reboot, it just says "Your system has recovered from a serious error" then sends me to a M$ site that says:
Error Caused by a Device Driver

Thank you for submitting an error report. Microsoft is unable to specifically determine what caused the problem you reported. If you would like to try and troubleshoot the problem, please utilize the information listed below.

Analysis

A device driver installed on your system caused the problem, but we cannot determine the precise cause. Depending on which situation is applicable to you, do one of the following:

If this problem occurred after you installed a new hardware device on your system, the problem might be caused by the driver for the device. If you know the manufacturer of the device, contact the manufacturer's product support service for assistance.
Some software, such as firewall and anti-virus software, also installs drivers. If this problem occurred after you installed new software, the software might have installed a driver that caused the problem. If you know the manufacturer of the software, contact the manufacturer's product support service for assistance.
If you don't know the driver's manufacturer and need help diagnosing and resolving this problem, contact your computer manufacturer's product support service.
Updated drivers might be available on the Microsoft Windows Update Web site. At Windows Update, you can have your computer scanned and, if there are updated drivers available, Windows Update will offer a selection of drivers that you might be able to use. To learn more about updated drivers that might be available, visit Microsoft Windows Update.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: Just remembered, I actually got a BSOD one time for a couple seconds that said something to the effect of 'page fault in unpaged area.' I checked the event viewer and got to this. It says "This problem occurs because the driver for the USB Universal Reader from Lexar Media, Inc is not compatible with Windows XP." Unfortunately, I've never had a USB reader attached to this computer.

Did you search for this file (Sausb.sys) as mentioned on the support site? Curious as to whether it is on your system even though you've never had a USB reader attached.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain and install the latest driver from Lexar Media, Inc.
STATUS
Lexar Media, Inc. has confirmed that this problem occurs when you use a version of their Sausb.sys driver with Windows XP that is earlier than version 4.6.

Did you go to My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager.
Then look around for this. The USB stuff is listed last. Check to see which drivers are installed. If you find Sausb.sys you need to determine if it is below version 4.6

You could also just do a Search of all files and folders to see if this file is on your computer.

Good idea, but the search came up negative. 😕

With the 0x00000050 error code, I'm thinking you either have memory going out on you or the video drivers. If you can, try rolling back the video driver to the previous version and try it for a couple of days.
