Hi everybody!
My system is rebooting every time I try to boot into any of my OSes on my system (98SE, 2000 Pro, XP Pro). It goes fine until the mouse shows up on the screen and tries to load the video driver.
History leading up to this:
My system was overheating, so I bought a new cooler, which keeps my temps much lower. Temps went from 52C idle (BIOS reading) to 40C idle (BIOS reading. At the same time, I installed a used GeForce 2 GTS. Everything worked fine for a while. I decided to replace the cooler on the GF2 GTS with a copper cooler I had on my old video card. Only problem is, when I took the cooler off, I gouged 3 contacts on the back of the card and this was the result:

I replaced the old video card, a GeForce 2 MX 400, in the system and it would reboot once it got to the point where it wanted to load the video driver. Just before that, the keyboard flashes and the lights go out on the keyboard (is this indicative of another problem?). I just installed my new GF4 Ti4200 Siluro 64MB and I get the same problem.
I tried going into Safe Mode in Win2000 and it sits there for a solid minute searching the hdd. It does this before going to any splash screen. On the black and white screen where the tick marks go across the bottom as the system boots, the bar goes all the way to the right, like it should. Then it sat there for a full minute searching the hdd. Then it reboots.
Anyone have any ideas? The video card fans are working. The new processor fan does not seem to be a problem since the system worked fine for a while with it and with the un-modified GF 2 GTS. The system boots fine and gives the normal beep at the normal time during the POST.
I reset the CMOS and the system boots faster now, but it still reboots. It has reboot while looking for video drivers and reboot while scanning the C and D drives after the system was not shut down correctly. It reboots every time I start up.
I'm at a loss...
Thanks
Dave
