Hey guys,
As you can see im new to these forums. Wasn't sure if this went here or in tech support, but since im OC'ing I figured I would put it here...

These are my system specs...
P4 2.8
Swiftech MCX4000 w/ Vantec Tornado
Asus P4PE/L
512MB Corsair XMS
SB Audigy 2
ATI Radeon 9700PRO
Antec TruePower 430
WinXP Pro SP1

I've tried giving my proc more voltage, lowering my ram timings, and combinations of both, however it makes no difference...

I can boot into windows at anything up to 3.36GHz, but as soon as I run 3D Mark or play any games my comp will reboot no matter the clock. (above 2.8 that is)

Anybody have an idea?

pci/agp locked?
more ram voltage?
agp voltage?

how much voltage did you give to cpu exactly?

try at a lower overclock on both the vidcard and cpu
programs to try:
memtest86 to see if its teh ram
prime95 to see if its the cpu

if prime95 fails in 10 or so hrs, its the cpu which is not stable
if memtest86 reports errors during any of the many tests, its the ram

sounds like you may have found a stability point... usually when o'cing you keep messing with the settings until you find a stability point. When I oc my video card I get frequent reboots... the video pauses for a sec and then reboots!

PCI/AGP set to auto in bios

Havent tried RAM voltage

Havent tried AGP voltage

CPU has 1.675V

What settings should I put them at?

i would probably back down on that cpu vcore if your board overvolts like my friends
at 1.65v in bios, his would read 1.7v actual ...which is borderline for northwoods

I have run prime95 overnight and it didnt crash. Also run Sandra burn in for cpu and mem overnight without a glitch... It just does it in games and 3d mark.

sandra doesnt do much for stability testing ;)

i would try memtest86, it could be ram (my friends was)

is the videocard overclocked?

No the vid card is at stock speed.

I tried upping the DDR voltage and AGP voltage just now.

The wierd thing is the only way I can get into windows at 3.36 is @ 1.7V, but im talking to you now at 3.15 @ 1.55V and no probs...

I dont think its the ram because I have the dividers set up so it runs @ 400 @ 21 X 150.

You said your PCI/AGP settings are at auto settings. I'm not sure about your board, but it probably could be the AGP speed; so try to set the PCI to 33MHz, and the AGP to 66MHz. ATI cards are known for not working very well on faster AGP then default, while Nvidia based boards are more less stable up to 100MHz AGP.

Or, how indicated by others - you just hit the wall of your proc...

I tried setting the PCI/AGP to 33.33/66.66, the vcore to 1.55, and DDR voltage to 2.7, and the AGP voltage to 1.6 and for now it seems ok. Even running the RAM at 2-2-3!

So thanks to all of you for your help.

I think my chip's limit is around 3.25 or so and its even unstable there so I have it running at 3.15 without any problems so far.
