Random question: Why is Japan the "Mecca" of games?

Sony
Nintendo
Square
Konami

So many more.

It seems like everything is made there, gets released there first, and is loaded with Japanese feel. What is it about Japan that makes it this way? Why not Canada, or England, or the US? What has made Japan the tech leaders of the world?

they concentrate on tech, comics and anime are big and fantasy in general are big, games are just more accepted there. Its not considered the cause for teen violence in Japan im pretty sure

Japan's economy depends solely on importation of ideas and goods, and the exportation of refined goods/ideas.

At least that's what is what it was like when they started industrializing....coal...etc

Problebly because Japan has an entire industry revolving around console and arcade games, much like the US has a large industry in PC games.

My own personal dislike for most of those companies aside, isn't console gaming much bigger than PC gaming, which most of those companies specialize in?

why's the us the mecca of movies and music?

India produces more films in a year than the US....
Except I assure you more indians are watching US movies than people in the US are watching indian ones.

Personally I dislike a lot of japanese games because I abhor most of their anime culture and the characters that they create in games. MGS2 was a great game, probably in great part because it wasn't throwing 4 foot tall w/ beach ball size head characters at me :)

Abu's last film was actually very good, although I think generally his career is going somewhat down the toilet ever since he stared in 'Abidaba Roul - a young princess', back in 1997.

Actually, that is untrue. Japanese products in general used to be extremely poor quality.
