My newest PC is a laptop, and it doesn't have one, unless you count my USB floppy drive. My desktop still does.

My desktop does because my onboard Intel RAID needs drivers from a floppy disk. Is there any way to put these on a USB key and have windows read from the USB drive when it prompts you for 3rd party drivers?

Yes, had one lying around so I put it in. Used it to run memtest86 for new memory and flash the bios on my motherboard. PC built in '05.

Nope ... have access to a USB floppy drive if required, but nearly everything that used to go on a floppy is now on my USB key(s).

Yes but my newest PC is pretty darn old.

But we don't have them on any PCs at work any more.

Yes.

I've used the same case for the last 3 or 4 computers. I would take it out, but I don't know where the face plate is to cover the hole. I can't remember the last time I acutally used the floppy drive.

Nope. Built the computer 2 years ago, didn't put a floppy in. I haven't had the need.

At work I occasionally need a floppy drive, but it's usually only once or twice a year.

Yup ... for $5 the occasional easy boot into DOS for a BIOS flash or XP-RAID driver for re-install is worth it.

My bet is my current PC will either be the last or maybe 2ed-to-last time I install one though.

I think I'm finally ready to give mine up, but I still have one in there. I do find the parallel, serial, and IDE ports completely useless in my computer now however; even more so for IDE now that there are decently priced DVD burners on the market. My floppy drive does get the occasional love for the good old F6 RAID drivers and BIOS updates though. However, the BIOS updates could be performed from a flash drive and the RAID drivers could be slipstreamed into a custom install disc, so the floppy port could go without much disruption in my life.

Yes. I have used the same floppy for the last three rebuilds(and still use it every once in a while too).

Why decided on this "feature" of not being able to load drivers from anything except a floppy?

I have one only for BIOS flashes like others do but it's sitting in my garage all the time. I just have a USB Thumb Drive for anything else.

Nope, my Macbook doesn't have one. Actually, my desktop I built in October 2005 doesn't have one either.

Yup. It'll be a while before I build a machine without a floppy, though to be honest USB thumb drives can do everything I'd want to do with a floppy. I even have a USB floppy drive, yay. Actually this box doesn't have CD drive (broke) and I never bought a DVD drive :D I share my laptop's dvd drive over the network if I need one.
