Random partial freezing problem in XP

A few times a day I get this random freezing problem where part of the Windows GUI will lock up. Mainly the taskbar will lock up and right-click on the desktop will lock up. I've made no changes to the hardware, have run adaware/spybot/avg, have even reinstalled. I figure it's some kind of updated driver (Mouseware maybe?) but was wondering if anyone had heard of it. Happens whether or not I'm connected to the Internet. Goes away after a minute or two. I have to alt-tab between programs for the duration, it's pretty annoying. Program menus work fine though. Any ideas?
