random IE crashes

Hello all!
I just installed windowsXP pro, and for some reason my internet explorer randomly crashes every 5 seconds about. I have everything updated, but the problem is still there. At the moment I use mozilla firebird, but sometimes it is still handy to use IE. Any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem?

Could be anything, but IE is of course susceptible to spyware, especially if your security settings are configured improperly. I would run Adaware or Spybot S&D if you haven't already. Virus scan might not hurt. Other than that, it could be anything.
