Can anyone help me? I'm running the following system:

AMD k6-2 500
FIC PAG 2130 motherboard
VIA VT8501 Chipset)
VT82C686A onboard sound chip (disabled)
Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128
GeForce 2 MX/MX 400
256 MB SDRAM
WinDoze 98 SE
Detonators 23.10
DirectX 8.0a

I got the latest 4-in-1's installed also. Basically what happens is after the hard drive has not been doing anything in a long time, it powers down, and the system halts, the hard drive powers up, the DVD drive's light starts flashing quickly, and the hard drive continues to power up and down. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??

Btw, this only started happening after I reinstalled WinDoze after I had another problem

I turned off suspend mode, and doze mode in the BIOS. I also configured Control panel -> power management to "ALWAYS ON"

maybe if you disabled all ACPI power management functions in the bios (the drawback is your system will no longer self power down through the Shut Down feature, you'll have to press the button yourself).... maybe also if you upgraded your OS to win2000. At where I work, we had these celeron 500 systems running on win98 that were notorious for having power problems (not turning off, stuff shutting down), and we upgraded to win2000 and everything was fixed.
