Random freezes and boot failures.

Hey guys i am currently having a problem with my computer, it keep on randomly freezing. Fails to boot sometimes (screen just stays black). It wont even shutdown (shutdown sign keeps on looping).

It is not a heating problem as my temps are 33-36 idle and 50-55 on full load.

I have also found a problem in my device manager.

I do not know what the storage device is, at first i thought it was my Ethernet card but after removing it also the driver is still present.

I did a 'mem ok' test and it reported that there is a problem with my memory and didn't say anything else.

My spec's

Amd Phenom x2 545 3.0ghz
Nvidia Gts 250 1gb
4gb OCZ ddr2 ram
Msi- 785gt-e63 Motherboard
CoolerMaster 550w Psu
Win7 64bit

What is a 'mem ok' test ?
If you used memtest86 or memtest86+, and it reported memory errors, then you need to look no further than that. Any errors in RAM can do what you described.

System freezing is usually in my experience memory related....incorrect voltage, timing settings or just faulty.
As for the device manager issue, I would check for newer drivers for the IDE controller...Is it for your optical drive?

I do have a sony dvd/cd drive, is the driver malfunctioning? The dvd drive works fine though.

Ok, so you have a RAM problem. RMA the ram, do NOT do any sort of chkdsk on the HD, it will make things worse since you have RAM errors!

nm. i read his OP wrong and it said it came back with errors. he said mem ok so i got confused.
