Random Crysis Performance Slow Downs

First let me get my specs out the way.

q6600 @ 3.0Ghz
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
4GB DDR2
80GB Intel SSD, 500GB Western Digital Black HDD
EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 @ 670/1144
650W Corsair PSU

I am running Crysis @ 1680x1050 and all is well with settings at High and 4xAA at 50-30fps, but sometimes I get to certain areas where the frame rate just plummets down to 1fps! In particular when you enter the navy ship to meet with the admiral. As soon as I enter that ship I go down to 1fps. When I get to certain areas inside the ship my frame rate goes back up to 50-30fps but then it will just plummet again until I go outside. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there something weird going on?

You have to remember that this is crysis and no computer will be able to run it full out until 2050 and that's only because of the human brain cpu that is invented but then again it usually closes the game after 20 minutes and goes in search of porn.

Bring down your AA to either 2X or no AA.

LMFAO!

Crysis is a performance hog, but nothing like you're describing. I have the same CPU at the same clock speed and same GPU as you and I run those exact settings and I never got horrendous slowdowns. Like Schenley mentioned, try running the 64-bit version. Also, are you running the DX9 version of the game or the DX10 one? I run the DX9 one and it gives you a substantial boost in performance at the cost of a little eye candy.

I brought my res down to 1400x900, No AA, 64bit and DX10 and I still get these extreme slow downs. Maybe I need to reinstall. And I have no other problem with any other game.

Update: Just tried playing it in DX9 and I get the same results. I don't get it.

I have no issues like that so something is certainly wrong. is the game patched? also what drivers are you using?

maybe something running in the background? processes that you're not aware of? i can play Crysis Warhead maxed out smooth, so i think 2050 may be a stretch haha.

I'm patched up to 1.2. I wonder if reinstalling it on my regular HDD instead of my SSD would help but I don't know why it would.

how are your temps? could it be that your hardware is throttling back due to heat?

Good point. I haven't check temps yet. I set my video card to stock speeds and I still have the same problem. I have an antec p182 case. It looks good and its quite but I don't think the airflow is good enough.

A lot of people had issues with the game locking and/or crashing in that level, with no problems at any other time in the game. I don't think anybody found a definitive fix or workaround. Most included reducing or turning off AA, and turning settings at Enthusiast/Very High down to Gamer/High, and that seemed to solve the problem for most people. I almost couldn't finish it, and even had a crash or two after turning stuff down. I also set my card back to stock speeds for the time. You could also try loading an older save, in case of corruption on the latest. What I gathered while searching for a solution was that the level is somewhat broken, and some people just got lucky and had no issues.
