Babe Ruth is ranked #8 in highest win percentage of a pitcher over a career. He had a record of 94-46 (also 3-0 pitching in the World Series). Pretty impressive for someone that was such a power hitter.


Also, in 1884 Old Hoss Radbourn won 59 games and lost 12 for Providence.


I'm kinda bummed about missing the last 2-3 seasons of baseball being busy with the Army and whatnot. It'll be good to watch some games this year. Going to two White Sox games this weekend.

"he gone!" "the royals 3, the good guys 5." yeah, he's terrible. mark grant sometimes does impressions of hawk on the broadcast and matt vasgersian usually says "please dont" as if he cant stand his phrases either. pretty funny stuff.


edit: oops, forgot to add a random stat. uhm, johnny vander meer is the only pitcher in mlb history to throw back-to-back no-hitters. the first one was against the boston braves and the second was against the brooklyn dodgers on the first night game ever at ebbets field.

Cy Young threw complete games in 91.9% of his 815 starts...he also made 91 relief appearances in his career. His # of complete games (749) would put him 4th all time...on the career starts list.

Also, Chip Carey sucks.

1938 so back then he was probably given part ownership of a turnip field and he got to sleep on the top bunk on the train back to cincinnati.

One of my favorite Baseball anomalies..

During an August 17, 1957 game, Ashburn hit a foul ball into the stands that struck spectator Alice Roth, wife of Philadelphia Bulletin sports editor Earl Roth, breaking her nose. When play resumed, Ashburn fouled off another ball that struck Roth while she was being carried off in a stretcher.

Heh, a woman seated right behind me caught a bouncer off of the upper deck in the shoulder. Was pretty funny actually. Had to hurt like a bitch. Staff was there within seconds to see if she was alright.

Well I'll guess 7, but somehow that will be wrong. I'm trying to think of any anomalies, surely a balk doesn't count.

im going with 6. you cant see pitch 7 because you cant both walk and strikeout.

im going with 6. you cant see pitch 7 because you cant both walk and strikeout.

Hmm, I'm stuck at 6 pitches, I can't think of any odd occurrences that would push it above that. Balk doesn't do anything for the pitch count, and getting hit would simply be #6 if your at a full count.

does it? Doesn't a balk not affect the batter, and only matters to base runners?

Ball doesn't necessarily get to the plate as pitch does it?

another anomaly i can think of is if someone gets thrown out on the basepaths to end an inning and the batter gets a fresh count the next inning. it is still only recorded as a single plate appearance.

It's foul if his body's in the strike zone and it hits him, right? If so, he can see as many pitches as the pitcher throws at him.

Some odd occurance:
Saturday - Dodgers vs Padres, runner on third, the Padre's catchers went for a pop fly foul near the dugout, to avoid running into it, he slid and made the catch but his feet were in the dugout.
The Batter was out, but the runner at third advanced to home. Apparently if you try to make a play from the dugout it's an advantage and the runners get to advance a base?

As for a baseball stat:
Considered the ultimate compliment to a hitter, only three people have been intentionally walked with the bases loaded in the 1900's. The recipients, in order, were Hall of Famer Nap Lajoie of the Philadelphia A's in 1901, Bill Nicholson of the Chicago Cubs in 1944, and Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants in 1998.

Rule 7.04(c) states that if "a fielder, after having made a legal catch, should fall ... into the dugout or any other out-of-play area while in possession of the ball ... the ball is dead and each runner shall advance one base, without liability to be put out."

so because he slid into the dugout and wasnt on his feet the whole time, technically he fell into out-of-play area and is victim to that rule.

edit: kind of sucks because peavy got charged with an earned run on it. the scorekeeper tried to make it an e-2, error on the catcher but the rule states otherwise as if its a balk and unless the guy on third reached on an error, its charged as an earned run. so far this season that crazy play is the only earned run peavy has given up.

Speaking of no-hitters, how about the game where Phillies pitcher Rick Wise threw a no-hitter AND hit 2 HRs, driving in 3 RBIs in a 4-0 win?
