There have to be more kind souls in OT - keep posting; and thanks for the stories so far.

Just recently, a customer (and somewhat of a friend) of ours who is quite housebound needed to get a rental car but she had no way of going to the rental car place. I set up the car for her and went to get her on my lunch break so she would not have to take a taxi.

Also, when i see an older person in the parking lot of a grocery store loading their bags into their car, i will offer to take their cart back/put it away for them.

Nothing earth shattering, but i enjoy helping people, even if it is a small act. :)

Good thread, BTW! :)

But Enterprise picks you up!

A few days back, I saw this homeless guy begging for some food and water. He was quite young (30-35). I asked him if he was ready to do some work for me.

I took him to my house and the backyard needed a little bit of cleaning. It took him like an hour to clean it up. I then game him some food and water and some money.

He now comes to clean my house on a regular basis and I have also recommended him to a few of my friends and neighbours. I think he is doing good now.

As they say..."Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime".

 best one so far

I was at LVLX and a girl dropped 3 singles. She picked up 2 and missed the other one. I walked over, picked up the dollar, placed it on the counter right in front of her and said, "You dropped this". I walked away and a few minutes later, the dollar was still on the counter. So, I walked back to the counter, pointed at the dollar, looked her in the eyes and said, "You dropped this." She finally took w/o saying a word to me.

A couple weeks ago, I found a cellphone laying in the grass, just off the local Greenway bike path. Nice phone and I'm sure a lot of people would have just kept it. But I called through the address book, hoping to find someone who knew the owner. Left a message with someone and got a call back from this man's daughter. Turns out it was an elderly man who was walking the Greenway for exercise and lost his phone. I had his daughter give him my phone number so he could call me. He called and I even drove out of my way to meet him in person to drop off the phone. When I did, he tried to give me $40 for my troubles but I never once considered taking a cent from him. Really, really nice man who was incredible grateful that I returned his phone.

Even though I don't believe in karma, I do believe too many people in this society have forgotten how to just be nice to a stranger, even if you have nothing to gain from it.

What you didn't mention is how you make the guy where a saddle and ball gag and he must do all the work on all fours. He does this while you are your friends sit on the patio, drinking beer, throwing rocks at him.

She offered me money, but I told her instead to invest in a CAA (Canadian AAA equivalent) membership :)

This type of act of kindness is pretty hard to even do these days because so many people are paranoid about strangers helping them. Most women, if alone, who have car troubles, will just stay in their car and call for help. Though I'm the type that would enjoy lending a hand, I do feel that it's probably a better idea to just keep driving by unless they're motioning for help. Otherwise, you risk freaking out someone who may not know you're a kind-hearted person. Not to mention, around here, it's very dangerous working on cars on the side of the highway.

But I'm glad you were able to help her and she wasn't worried about her safety.

I tend to make it a habit to due the smallest of kind gestures on a regular basis.. letting someone get infront of me in line, holding the door open, etc.

However, something that I have made an effort to do A LOT more recently is make eye contact and smile. I love to see the look on other people's faces when you actually acknowledge their existence instead of looking away and walking passed them.

I was at the local park shooting hoops alone when an older lady and what appeared to be her mentally handicapped son dropped by to shoot at one of the other goals. After a while, he stops and asks me if I played for the Kentucky Wildcats. I tried to explain to him that while I went to UK, I wasn't on the team but he wasn't having any of it: I went to UK and I was playing basketball therefore I must be on their basketball team. I looked helplessly at his mother who smiled and nodded. Anyway, I ask him if he wanted to play a game of one-on-one and he agreed with a big ole grin on his face. I keep it competative until the end but let him win. He was esctatic. I guess in his mind, he'd just beaten one of the Kentucky Wildcats. His mother thanked me as they were leaving.

no.

but i have seen that on a commercial.

The stupid ford commercial, yes.

On topic: Does bumping this thread so it doesn't die before lunch count as a random act of kindness?

I'll help!

Really though... a few months ago, our high school got a new exchange student, from Russia/Ukraine or somewhere around there. Anyway, one day me and my friend were walking home, when someone calls to us behind us. Lo and behold, it's the exchange student. um... Long story short, she was lost and we helped her get back to where she was living.

Yea, same thing happened to me. This one foreign exchange student was hitting tennis balls by herself and looked really bored, so I grabbed my racquet and played with her a little bit. She was terrible, but we had a good time.

why is it stupid? because you aren't a Ford fan?

actually, if some hot chick did a RAOK and paid for your dry cleaning you wouldn't think it stupid.

I try to be as nice to others as possible. I frequently ask people if they need helping finding things in stores. It's hard not to when they look so lost. I also let people go in front of me in lines, if they have less than I do. :)

I saw him in the break room one day trying to get a Hershey bar and it got stuck... he shook the machine but was just too weak to get it to drop. I shook it for him, but still no luck. He finally just gave up and walked out saying I guess God doesn't want me to satisfy my sweet tooth today. I ended up swinging by the store on my lunch break and picked him up a Hershey bar and put it on his desk. I know it's not much, but I would rarely do that for anyone else except a raging pregnant woman. Sometimes old people get to me I guess. It seemed to really brighten him up and made his day.

wow. you, my friend, are awesome. I'm so happy that you did that kind act. Really nice of you.

when traffic gets bad at the tolls between boston/cambridge/allston - especially with the non-ezpass/fastlane booths - i'll give the operator a 10 to cover the next 10 people going through. pretty cute, people look bewildered for a few seconds when they're waved through, till they realized what happened.

wow! that's cool! :)
