I think I'd ask him what he likes to drink and get a large bottle of it...

I would, but I found out he's a chairman on the board of a group of local Lutheran schools.
Although he barely mentioned it.

I'd say he's a true Christian if I've ever seen one. ;)

Great story! Without looking I figured you were in the south ;). I have one neighbor who is literally the best neighbor I could ever possibly hope for...the rest, I don't know very well.

woot! having great neighbours is well great.

i live in a small town (maybe 50 houses). i have trouble doing some lawncare and shoveling walks etc.

well its not uncommon for me to look o ut and find someone mowing my yard or ploweing off my drive etc. Granted i tend to be the computer guy in town but thats ok.

oh also i had shoulder surgery about 8 months ago. i had some people come over to check up on me and made me dinner!

Agreed. If you see your neighbor working on something/problem you go up and help/offer "what can I do to help?"

There's something to be said about having neighbors that look out for one another. I've got their back and they have mine.

-edit-
oh....Do SOMETHING for him. A nice gift basket, something not related to money. Some basic need. Offer to watch his pets, babysit, something not money related...time/effort/care related.

That's really nice. It's that way out in the country here. You mow someone's field because you have a tractor and they don't, they plow the snow in your driveway because you don't have a snowplow and they do. You fix someone's computer and they let you borrow their excavator. It's too bad that this is not the norm in this country anymore.

Awesome! what a great story! Had trouble out front of the house and the local water authority came out and fixed it for free. Problem ended up being under the street.

Sounds like you live in an awesome neighborhood.

The leak was on my side of the water meter, thus my problem. :(

From what I've been told, I should be able to have my bill knocked down substantially if I talk to the city about it.

You probably have to produce an invoice or proof of repair for this to happen. Maybe your contractor neighbor can bill you something for equipment use or materials if necessary. My buddy had a $400 water bill one month due to a plumbing issue. Nothing was noticeable so the water bill tipped him off. I think the city used the average of previous bills and his invoice from the plumber as proof.

Yeah, he already offered to write a letter for me if I need. :D

I have good neighbors too. Nice to have a helping hand when you need it and I always try to return the favor.

I live on a short street with mostly retirees, it was recently brought ot my attention that I was the only man left, that made me chuckle.

Some towns raise barns. Others dig large holes and lay pipes. To each his own.

It's on your side of the meter, but it's still outside? I thought all water meters were on the inside of the house....

Nice neighbor, though.

The water meters in TX are usually in the yard next to the curb with a small manhole covering them.
