I've ran over a lot of cats. Comes with driving in the country. I'll actually swerve to hit Canadian Geese but I usually miss.

I just want to add that it is indeed possible for the cat to have been run over and run away. I saw this exact same thing happen a couple years ago. A car slowed down while a cat was crossing the street, and slowly kept rolling, and the cat was so dumb it let itself get run over. Tire went straight over its back and the thing darted away, apparently unscathed but I'm sure it died later. I couldn't tell if the people were trying to hit it or what, it sure was strange how they slowed down and hit it dead on.

I'd be more bothered if the cat survived getting hit, as it would be in pain until it died. Have yet to hit any animal while driving. Hopefully I never will, but that's life.

I used to swerve to try to hit crows, then I hit one...............in the windshield. That was the last time I tried that.

I'm guessing its pretty badly hurt right now, i hit it hard enough for me and the passenger to feel the car jolt so it must have been pretty hard! Poor thing..

How about stoppng and making a phone call? Chances are it fled somewhere to hide and possibly die.

Go you manly man!

Don't feel bad, on a stretch of road near my house there are woods that are infested with strays. I must have run over 10 or 12 by now. They're constantly darting between the woods and the low class apartments. If they cared about their cat, they wouldn't be letting it run outside because these kinds of things happen.

hmmm another time 91TTZ shows his big brain. Perhaps just perhaps those cats are actually feral's and aren't really anyone's cats.

Yes believe it or not, animals sometimes don't have owners nor come from the zoo.

And who do you suggest i call? And to say what? Its not like the cat was unconcious and i could read a tag or something.

Bear in mind im in England and not the US, i don't know what kind of vet service you have.

I have no sympathy for you because you didnt stop and try to find the cat and bring it to a vet to try to save it.

If you stopped and it was dead already, okay.

If you stopped and couldnt find it, okay.

If it was on the northway or something and you didnt stop then, okay.

But, it appears you did a hit and run on a cat. I realize it isn't a human being but you could have stopped and tried. I also realize your feeling bad about it now after the fact which is too late but now it is too late! Someone may be crying themselves to sleep in worry and be just plain sick with worry over their beloved cat for the next few months.

It was an accident.
It is not your fault that you hit the cat.

However that nagging guilt is mainly for not stopping and making the effort to save it.

If you were speeding in your neigborhood and hit the cat you probably feel very guilty right now as well. Speeding in neighborhoods not only puts kids at risk but it kills and injurs people's, cats and dogs occasionally. It is almost always 99% from my experience the young drivers that speed in neighborhoods until they mature and realize the risk or worse yet they actually have a collision with a kid, dog, cat, adult etc.
