Ran Memtest and failed...

I ran memtest to see if something was wrong with my memory. I have a stick of corsair 512 3200. Well it ran fine until test 6 and then had 7 errors. Does this mean that my memory is junk? My system runs fine in games and stuff, also do I need to run memtest with or without my system overclocked? Thanks

You run it with memory specs. If the memory does not passes its own specs just RMA the stick. Only Corsair is a tough place to get RMA. Next time buy Mushkin.

It means that your memory is not 100% reliable. It could result in system instablility and hard crashes. Definately RMA it right away.

Forgot to add, I ran it again and it got done with test #6 and then it just froze. Didn't give an error report or anything just froze, also when you run memtest do you need to have your cpu at default clock speeds or is it alright to have it overclocked? Just maybe wandering if it's something I did wrong.

It depends...Can you run memory at default speed with default fsb??? Sometimes many need to oc their fsb to run their memory at its rated speed....It is imperative you know the cpu is stable at the spee you are running the memtest....Hence why most ocers make sure the cpu has found its limit before they start to tweak the memory....

In the memtest you want to hit <c> then turn off cache all the time to isolate the memory and take the cpu out of the equation if you have any doubts....

I personally know the cpu is stable prior to running memtest so I turn on the cache all the time....I also make sure I turn on all of the test and not just std...

I have a Corsair LLPT PC 3200 myself and I failed memtest at test 5 when I overclocked it too much, (211 X 11) @2.3Ghz for my T-bredB 2100+

I had some fatal errors as well while playing WC3,

after lowering down the FSB(205 X 11) @ 2.2Ghz, its all stable without errors.
so far so good

like it sometimes will just freeze during testing. won't give me an error report or anything. does that mean it failed?

oh, also when you make memtest on a floppy can you erase memtest or is memtest permanent on the floppy? thanks

Ran at stock speeds and it still froze. The first time I ran it I got 7 errors. I have my p4 overclocked to 3.13ghz and is completely stable at prime95 for 4 hours. Never reboots. Is it worth RMA back to newegg?

What is your voltage set at? How about the timings? Try bumping the VDIMM up a notch at a time until you hit 2.8V...

go back to default everything...

run it at 2.4 ghz

run memtest and do...

c-1-2-2-3-3-0

i think that's the order

basically, turn cache on for all test and run all extended tests as well

run the stick at SPD

and if it still errors, increase your vdimm voltage and try again...

if all else fails, RMA it back to CORSAIR

it is sompletely stable at prime95 and in games, never have had a problem, it gets through the whole test during memtest but freezes at 98% completed. Would you still recommend rma? Will stabability get worse later on? Thanks so much for your help guys.

I think I may have found the problem. After readings some posts by the ram guy over at houseofhelp.com, several people are having the same problems with there ram running asus motherboards. There problems have been fixed by resetting some settings and they had the exact problems I'm having. Thanks for all the help guys!
