Yep, Dual Universe has a lot of potential. I've been keeping an eye on it. Not sure if I'm going to buy into the Kickstarter on this one, but I hope they pull it off. Their funding has surged quite a bit on its own after Chris Roberts gave them a shout out to the Star Citizens.

It is expensive, though, $450 for a lifetime subscription or normally $18/month or so - I do like the subscription approach but it'd be nice if they could halve the cost. Even $8-10/month adds up.

Exactly. I'm not a fan of subscription models, so it keeps me from wanting to participate. Maybe once they launch I'll look at it.

Didn't people learn their lesson from lifetime subscriptions from Hellgate: London?

Ya, sometimes publishers screw the loyal customers. There are also the games that go 'free to play' leaving the lifetime subscribers feeling cheated.

It's not that it's a bad deal, if the person would have purchased years of subscribing, but that's a risk.

People are banking on the WoW hysteria taking hold of their MMO when most developers don't realize that there are no many out there now that charging for a subscription is almost the same as making the noose and tightening around your own neck while standing on a rotting chair. If memory serves me correct, Tera tried this and now it's F2P because their player-base count was tanking fast.

Agreed again, I fail to see why they all shoot for $15 per month following countless numbers of failures. Do something different like keep the base cost of the game in the $30-50 range, go for $9 per month or $50 per year. That's a decent sum of money, I also feel people who create games are the creative types that aren't very good at managing money but I know they could benefit from living with a budget, I know this sounds blasphemous but there has to be a smart middle ground.

Anyone buying lifetime subscriptions to yet to be released game deserves whatever happens IMO.

Looks incredibly ambitious. I wish them the best and if they pull it off and release a game with most of those features I'll be first in line to sign up. I've been bitten way too many times by MMO devs promising the world to put any $ down up front though.

Very interesting, but I've never kickstarted a game and don't plan to anytime soon. It's not that I don't want to support smaller companies and etc. but I feel like I need a product first before they start asking for money. And the pledge has to be worth while. They need to give me like alpha access or something and let me figure out if I still want to pay afterwards. I need a taste of it and will gladly pledge for it and then buy the game in full afterwards.

Rock, paper, shotgun has been covering this. They seem to have a bunch of stuff working. Don't take this as me saying its a sure thing but it does appear to be more than a pipe dream.

This looks very promising. I'll not back it but I might buy it if/when it releases.

I'll wait for Steams Early Access, it would have to be cheaper too. I'm not paying $60 for early access with a subscription fee for anything any longer.

Under one million to build a single instance, shared world, minecraft-ish MMORPG? I'm skeptical, but I'm also not the target audience since I prefer story-driven MMOs to pure sandbox with only "emergent" content. It might end up as Second Life ... in spaaace!
