I'm planning on getting a new laptop the will be use purely for digital painting and animation(no web surfing or downloading). its a toshiba with a 17 inch screen and has an 8gb ram.i wanted to know if i installed another 8gb ram would that give me twice as much ram and would it be able to support corel painter ,photoshop and manga studio ? it has to be a laptop because i cant afford a whole system. my questions may be common sense, just keep in mind that i dont know what im doing and whatever you can tell me will be seriously appreciated. thanks in advance.

It depends on the laptop,

Whether the board itself will support more than 8GB (some are limited),

Whether there is a spare slot (it may already have 2x4GB, in which case if you really want 16GB you will have to buy 2x8GB sodimms)

And of course you'll need a 64 bit operating system for over 4GB, but any good laptop manufacturer should have thought of this.

If you look at the specs before you order, you may have to look on the manufacturers website but it should say if it's upgradable or not.

If it's a new, current-generation laptop then he shouldn't have any issues going up to 16GB.

I strongly suspect that the laptop will ship with 2x4GB (unless there's an option to specify 1x8GB), but again that's just a guess.

Knowing where you (the OP) lives would be helpful as well.
