Rampage Extreme II will not POST after BIOS update

EDIT:

I took out all the RAM, got the system to beep at me,
put the RAM back in the A1 slot, still beeped at me
put the RAM in the A2 slot - it booted. Go Figure

Rampage Extreme II Rev 2
12 GB GSkill F312800 (DDR3-1600) (9-9-9-24)
I7 920 batch 3838B w/ OCZ vendetta cooler & bolt thru kit.
HD 4650
4x Segate 7200.11 320's
1x SATA Samsung burner
610 w. PCP&C PSU

Built system, fired it up with a single stick of RAM,
Manually set RAM timings,
Installed all my drivers,
Installed remaining RAM,

At this point everything was working fine. I even did a quick and dirty O/C with the CPU level-up. It worked fine.

I decided to update the BIOS, DL'd 1104 to a USB drive and flashed via the flash util in the BIOS. It went fine, no errors, when I rebooted the system refused to POST, no beeps at all.

As for the LCD: After power up I get the WECOME, then it starts counting mins & secs, At about 10 seconds I get some sort of power down message THEN it powers back on (by itself) gives me the WELCOME message and starts counting.

Of course I have gone back to a single stick of RAM (Tried both A1 & A3 slots) Tried all three BIOS jumper settings (seems to be working based on the BIOS LEDs) with the same results.

Any ideas short of an RMA? Did flashing the BIOS fry it?

don't know what to tell you, other than hopefully someone can offer you some better advice - you can't even get into your bios? to reflash it?

Nothing, no beeps, no video and the little LCD just sits there counting the seconds the systems has been powered up...

Good morning. If your board has a removeable bios chip, try this as a last ditch effort; Pull all power to the board and pull all periphs attached to power from the supply/board. Pull the bios chip out, pull the battery out and leave the cmos jumper shorted. Hook up the atx 24 pin, 8pin 12v, power to the single video card, fan to the cpu, 1 stick of memory to the slot closest to the cpu, Thats it besides a Keyboard and Mouse. Nothing else attached ie; no USB drives, No HDD, No CDROM, No Lan cable etc.

Boot er up to bios, it may do the same thing it did before, if it does or ends in an endless loop, turn off the PSU. Try this 3 or 4 times. If you get into bios do the same thing, shut it down via the PSU or wall plug. If you have gotten to bios, after shut down, clear power to the board,( power switch), and put the bios chip/battery back in and return the cmos jumper to its normal run position. At this point you "Should" be able to boot into bios and set defaults and save.

Again, this is a last ditch effort and I cannot be responsible for anything. What this does is it clears the cmos settings from another area where it is stored on the board. Don't ask me where because I do not know.

Good luck.

Larry

Clear the CMOS. My M2N-E does that after a BIOS update. I try to turn the rig back on and no beeps, no thing. Resetting the CMOS does the trick.

Hi Larry, thanks for your help;

This board has dual bios chips Do you think I should pull both? Also, there is not clear cmos jumper, there is a clear cmos button on the back panel.

Ya, I have cleared the CMOS via the button and by removing the battery for several hours. No change. Thanks for your help!

Well, as you have the extra bios chip, simply pull the first bios that may be corrupt, the bios chip closest to the front of your computer, and replace it with the other bios chip, which should be the chip closer to the back of the board. That alone should get you going with the stock bios the board was sent with. Do not mess up the orientation of the good bios chip when swapping them tho. Remember or mark orientation on Both bios chips for future dealings.

May be too early to crack open a bottle. It's working, but I can not get it to boot with 6 sticks of RAM and only sees 4GB of the 6 that I have in it now... this thing still might be FUBAR

make sure you put the jumper for the cmos CLEAR in the right position, and then try clearing the CMOS with the switch. on page 2-26 of the manual it talks about the cmos switch jumper mode. if it does not clear the cmos with the jumper in the correct position then you should RMA right away

It clears the CMOS, not a problem. I think I have narrowed it down to a bad DIMM slot as it will not post with a single stick in the first (closest to the CPU) blue position. It will boot with a stick in either, or both, of the other two.
