Um...real ramen is not a "college staple." There's a fantastic little shop in Akatsuka that serves some fantastic pork ramen for ~6.99...better than any pasta I've had here.

Wish I could find it on street view, but I forget the address and searching from my in-laws, I haven't been able to find it.
 
I mean I LIKE ramen. But its not really a "fine dining" food. Stalls in Korean and Japan sell amazing tasting Ramen, but thats really all it is, easy, delicious food.

Unless you think just shoving insanely expensive ingredients into an otherwise simple food somehow makes it fine dining.
 
The college dorm instant noodles are to Japanese ramen what Chef-Boyardee is to real Italian pasta.

Noodles that he linked to is really more fast food than fine dining. but hey, maybe that qualifies as fine dining to him 😎

It's as much "fine dining" as the restaurant that serves it. Most *-ya's make delicious food, but of course it's not "fine dining." It also outperforms anything that would be considered a "college staple," and if served in the right environment could be considered such.

Fast food is not fine dining... The article evens said not fine dining...

the franchise near my place folded. And ABC should be ashamed of itself for confusing ramen with instant noodle.

There is no rule that says you have to use an article link for the title of your thread. If there were such a rule, it might also say you are allowed to use quotation marks for such a title.

There is no such rule, though, so it's always better to use your interpretation and whatever best represents reality than directly lifting the title from a possibly misleading or at least poorly-titled article.

True, there is no such rule. In my case, I always tried my best to get the original title (if possible) so the true meaning of the story from the author(s) would not be diluted by my interpretation (for better or worse).

What I was talking about is that folks that did not bother to read the linked article/story at all to get a background story but jumped right on the wagon and posted smart ass comments and implied about things which I never said.

BTW, love your post in the thread of the 300: Rise Of An Empire, about various ancient battles. Thumb up.

Santouka, Daikokuya, Shinsengumi, Orochan, Mentatsu are like $8-10/bowl and way better than Noodles and Co. I thought Noodles and Co. served like fusion pasta dishes. Saw one at the mall in SD and most of the menu were Italian-Asian dishes (mac and ramen) or something.

But anyways I'm more of a udon/knife-cut noodle person.
 
My friend always tries to drag me to some wanna be fancy Ramen spot in LA. $8.99 for a bowl of noodles with broth and some random other shit. What a fucking scam, people do line up around the block and are glad to pay 20 times what it's worth though.

Yeah, most users don't read the article... I'll admit I didn't read it at first, either. I don't think they were trying to be critical of you so much as the idea that most people in the U.S. have which is ramen = instant noodles.

I know just enough to know that I don't know enough, lol.
 
Best damn ramen I ever had but it helps to live in an area with a large asian population as you'll rarely find places like these without them.
