Don't you mean that "ramen without a spice packet is cheap spaghetti?"

I mean, a box of spaghetti is around 89 cents. You can get ramen packages for around 35 cents each.

That only works with fresh Ramen not the instant stuff.

You can use chicken broth or beef stock. After you eat those chicken boil the bones and use it for ramen. Its not the same as fresh but good enough for ramen. The possibility is endless with simple ramen packet.

Dried ramen is fake food. It's all artificial flavors and colors, then it's loaded up with sodium to mask the nasty flavorings. You can make fresh quick ramen in about 12 minutes if you care about what you eat:

Sear one seasoned chicken thigh in hot olive oil on both sides. Once browned, add some chicken stock (I keep a closable box of the stuff in my fridge...you can use water too). Bring to a boil and add a handful of your favorite veggies + salt, pepper, a pinch of ginger powder, and fish sauce or soy sauce.

Once it's up to a boil, add in some rice noodles (or angel hair spaghetti/vermicelli if you like). Shred the chicken, wilt some kale in it and maybe add a sliced hard boiled egg to the top.

Done.

One does not eat ramen to be healthy. Indulge in the packet, it's what makes it taste good! Otherwise it's just tasteless carbs. It's not like it's healthy anyway, so you may as well go all the way. :p

I sometimes like to add a drop of hot sauce to give it an extra kick.

If you search for "fire noodles" on Amazon and feel adventurous those are pretty good too. There's no English or French or anything on it, it's just Chinese. So yeah no idea what's in it but it's good. :p

I like to eat instant Ramen noodles uncooked... they are great to put on salad, eat dry as a snack...etc
The extra beef packets, I use them in other disheswhere I fry ground meats or use Spaghetti Sauce.

Korean. You can trust the Koreans ;^) That's what I had for dinner thanks to this thread. Didn't know what I wanted, and I wasn't super hungry, so ramen sounded good.

I thought I would be clever and save money buying cheese powder from Amazon and pasta at the local cheap grocer.
Not only did I end up spending slightly more money but the cheese powder does not absorb into noodles the same way as a box of macaroni & cheese. Something special about their boxed meal that just works better.

I was just discussing with a friend of mine tonight, about one of my inventive "ideas" - "Boil in bag Microwave Spaghetti".

Edit: And if you're truly broke, consider supplementing your Ramen noodles, with a loaf or two of cheap bread, and PB&J. Another budget staple, but at least there's protein in it. I don't think Ramen contains much protein.

This actually isn't a bad idea. I use those microwave "steam-cook" bags for veggies once in awhile & they actually work out really great! If you could do a meatball, sauce, and noodle kit in a bag that you simply have to microwave, that would be pretty awesome! Some thoughts:

1. Bertolli's has really fantastic frozen skillet meals available, where they basically have pre-cooked meat (like chicken strips), noodles, and then what looks like ice cube tray blocks of sauce/butter/seasonings, etc. So all you have to do is dump it in the skillet for 10 minutes & you've got a great dinner! Lots of flavors available:

https://www.bertolli.com/frozen-meals/skillet-meals/

2. I've been on a meatball kick lately & have been testing different methods using the Instant Pot & Sous Vide, and have been getting some really stellar results. Particularly with the sous-vide method of cooking, you can shock the cooked food in an ice bath & then throw back in the freezer, whether it's chicken or a meatball or whatever, and then have a ready-to-cook meat like Bertolli's does it! (edit: WOW I hate the automatic social media embedding feature, I used to be able to disable it by using the URL BB code, it doesn't work anymore!! waaaa)

3. The Vite-Ramen guys started up on reddit with just an idea, same as yours, and now have a great business going. They have a Soylent-style "complete meal" near-instant ramen available, which packs in 27 grams of protein. I use them for lunches on a semi-regular basis out of sheer convenience:

I came up with a lazy flowchart for improving the Vite-Ramen noodles here: (my pictures aren't the best, but the soups are dang tasty!)

Instant noodle are already cooked, used to be fried, now mostly steamed. You are just rehydrating.
