VIA made an intellegent comment. One of the rules of business is to never (ever) put down your competitor - instead extoll the virtues of your own product.

If it wasn't for Intel's dilemna with Rambus, VIA wouldn't be making BIG money producing DDR support for the Intel chipsets. VIA must love Rambus (since they aren't being sued by them - yet).

I still can't get over the fact that VIA will be producing chipsets for Intel.

What do you mean by that? Intel should be a monopoly?

No, Intel shouldn't be a monopoly. But they have been until recently.

Then what do you mean you cant get over the fact that VIA produces chipsets for Intel???

Your statement sounds to me like only Intel should produce chipsets for Intel based CPUs.

Argh, I cannot communicate clearly...lol

I think that it is odd for Intel to have to look to VIA for DDR chipsets after the almost monoply stance held by them in the past.

Well, I dont think Intel will need VIA's help to get up and running with DDR. Intel is more than capable of developing their own. In fact, Intel is not going to sell the P7(willamette) bus to VIA or any other 3rd party chipset makers. So we can only expect Intel chipsets with the Pentium4.

Don't you read? More than a few threads recently have been discussing the fact that Intel signed an agreement with Rambus stating that they will not create DDR chipsets for their next gen CPUs. This means that if Intel wants DDR, it's VIA or nothing.

Oh yea? I dont really think Intel is stupid enough to hand over such a profittable solution to one of their biggest competitors. Is there a source or press release to this?

I think it is on the Anandtech news page. It has also been posted in the forum.

well.. what VIA basically said.. that.. Rambus is good.. but only if people know how to implement it properly

some odd reason.. i still think Rambus may be the wave of the future
