RAMBUS is Suck! (at least as far as the judge is concerned!)

Well, the judge dropped the other shoe today and dismissed the other three (remaining) complaints Rambus had. Now, they get to appeal and I am completely sure that that will take it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. And I can't wait to see the "look" on their faces when the Supremes say "no thanks" to them. I sure hope that this case is used as ammo in the other cases and helps get them all dumped out of court.

FAQ,

Rambus has sued just about all the memory makes for royalies on SDRAM and SDDRAM. There was a whole lot of evidence that came out that showed that Rambus played fast and loose with the JEDEC (SP?) standards body to get them to approve the SDRAM standard while Rambus was secretly patenting a lot of the ideas that were brought up in the meetings. Of course, that is against the JEDECs rules and probably illegal as well. Either way, the judge in the Infinion case just through out all the charges in the law suit that Rambus brought against Infinion. It is very good to see it go down in flames.

Personally, I really do think that if someone invents something and get it patented, they should be able to collect royalties from others who use that technology. But what Rambus did is a whole lot closer to "protection" racket than legitimate patents. Of course, software patents need to go into the trash all together! Let them use copyright law.

There is also some info going around that they pre-filled (or something like that) patents. They where basically filing extensions since 1990~1992 to 1997 during that time they could change the content of what they where actually patenting.

So basically they pulled a fast one on the patent office as well. Possibly illegal and warranting Rambus employees go to jail for - the ones that where involved in defrauding the patent office in any case.

It is indeed a grim future for Rambus.
