Not sure of the source, but Rambus probably has some technology AMD could use. I doubt this has anything to do with RDRam, but you never know. I suspect it would be something to do with the memory controller(perhaps some funky internal bus system or something), but that conjecture should be left to Wingnut or someone who actually knows about this gadgetry(aka: not me! :D ).

It's most likely to do with the chipset interconnects from multi-processor systems, not anything to do with system memory.

Yeah. it's most liikely dealing with interconnects or memory controllers, but it would be interesting to see how an X2 would perform with XDRAM.

I think (read: hope) it means that AMD will integrate an XIO-chip into the processor. That means that a processor will be able to support DDR2, DDR3, XDRAM, FBDIMM, etc. etc. Almost all flavours, except DDR1 and all GDDRx's :p.

EDIT: I forgot! The integrated PCIe and PCI-X :D.

that'd be the day.

Could have something to do with integeration of PCIe or some other I/O via some kind of controller or bus for the Socket-F opterons. After all why is there going to be another 267pins? Unless AMD are integerating a Quad channel memory controller which is probally more than likely which again they might need some aid from rambus.

Whatever the reason, it can only mean good things. RAMBUS does know a thing or 3 re RAM.

4 & 1/2 yrs later & still going strong: ASUS P4T, i850 RDRAM chipset, 2ghz Willamette P4, 1gig RDRAM, w's 98se.

It's what PCResources was working on a number of years ago. Well, that and being quite possibly the most awesomest person in the whole world!

(Inside joke for the old timers here. ;) )
