I am in the process of upgrading my system and have already purchased the RAM and it is here. My question is this...my current system is an old LX based motherboard(ABIT LX6) with a PII 333 on it. As such it runs at 66mhz and thus uses 66mhz memory. The memory I purchased for my nex system is PC133 RAM and I was wondering if it is ok to put it in the old system until I get the rest of the parts in? The memory is Siemens CAS2 that I purchased from Mushkin. I'm assuming that running this RAM in an old motherboard wouldn't be a problem but I've been told not so by 2 people and that it is in fact ok by 3 others. HELP????

Thanks!

I would guess that since pc133 can run at 100mhz, it can also run at 66mhz. I dont' think it could hurt anything to try. But then again I'm not totally sure, for some people believe that underclocking memory, which it is more or less doing, can cause data errors (which still woudlnt' harm the ram, just would cause windows to crash more than it's usual).

It is perfectly safe to run PC133 ram at 66Mhz. PC133 means that the ram CAN run up to 133Mhz, not that it must...

you can try running it, it wont hurt anything, but if the MB is fussy (and alot are, atleast the ones i've worked with) then it may not recognize the RAM and wont boot, or may not see all of the RAM. You never know till you try it!

It should work fine... And like aUt0eXebat said, nothing will happen to the new RAM even if the MB doesn't recognise it.
