If you are buying an SLI board, why don't you just get a nVidia 6800 GT PCI-E? It'll let you run SLI when you want to upgrade soooner or later.

Not overclocking, then go with the previous Corsair or Kingston Value RAM PC3200. Anandtech has shown that higher ("better") memory will not be worth it if not overclocking.

Overclocking without memory tweaking, buy anything with Samsung TCCD chips. Go to ocfoums.com and the first sticky shows what chips go with which RAM. These chips are really great. Most current RAM with 2-2-2 SPD settings are TCCD chips (but not all).

Overclocking with memory tweaks, buy an older Corsair BH-5 chip or new Twinmos SP with the UTT chips plus an OCZ memory booster to increase the voltage of the memory. The voltage booster adds $40 to the cost of the memory; but if you like to risk an electrical fire complete with blue smoke, then increasing voltage is the way to go. It is like striking a match in a forest in CA. Eventually, you will get burned. You probably should NOT be doing this.

Since you are not overclocking just get some Corsair Value Select. It is real cheap and expensive RAM will give you no real performance increase. The only reason to get expensive RAM is if you are ovwerclocking, but even then you can get Patriot RAM for $220 which is not so expensive.

So definitely go with Corsair Value Select.

if you're not overclocking the athlon64 4000+ is a better cpu. You're just paying extra for the unlocked multiplier and strained silicon.

oops, almost forgot the extra 200mhz

dripping drewl....

FX-55 > no overclocking?

You will probably change your mind about that sooner or later...so get some good quality pc3200 memory with LOW timings...u can still overclock that memory pretty nicely, and i doubt you will be pushing that system to its limits, considering u have no intention of overclcocking right now....

So, since u dont seem to be poor, or maybe u thought something like : "enough with this slow computer, im gonna buy me the fastest sh*t out there!"

>>> I would certainly NOT go "budget" on your memory all of a sudden...

p.s : forget DDR2 memory, its of no use to your system, in fact it will slow you down (terrible timings)

If you are looking for a medium on performance and price, then you could always go with Crucial. The beauty about crucial (tho not being the HIGHEST of brand...still being VERY stable and widely ranged...while being a decent price as well) is that you can look up the most precisely compatible RAM for your board, by searching Crucial by motherboard brand & model number. VERY nice site in my opinion.

I've taken the liberty of locating the RAM best designed for your motherboard (thru Crucial anyhow). Here is the link.

Another decent quality about Crucial is that there is NEVER any shipping costs. VERY nice. I still can't get that out of my head about being able to match up the RAM to the MB on the same site to purchase it (instead of finding a site to match it up for you for best compatibility, then having to scour the reseller world to find that exact ram). I realize opinions about Crucial are mixed...but I've bought from NOWHERE but them, with the exception of the current ram I'm running...bought from here at anandtech, due to finances...and this was a VERY sweet deal (for my RAM).

Sorry about the rambling. I'm done. hehehehe. Best of luck. Maybe let me know what you decide to do about RAM? I'm curious.
