RAM voltages with motherboard

Hi,

I've just bought two sticks of Corsair XL Series 512MB PC3200 DDR (400Mhz) CL2 Memory (2-2-2-5) (That's without the activity LEDs). I asked them to get me two sticks from the same batch so I can run them in dual channel. :)

I have a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2 (Rev 2.0) motherboard with an XP2600+ which I plan on overclocking to at least 200 FSB.

Anyway this new memory is rated at 2.75volts. Now when I put it in the board, will it automatically run at 2.75v or will it run at something lower, and then I have to add more DIMM voltage in the BIOS???

If it doesn't automatically run at 2.75v then I only have two overclock options in the BIOS (+0.1v and +0.2v).

I remember the Geil dual channel kit I had was rated at 2.55v - 2.95v and this motherboard would only go up to 2.8v with the Geil RAM in. Consequently the 2600+ wasn't Prime95 stable at 2300mhz (200 FSB) - maybe because not enough voltage in the RAM??? I also tried a TwinMOS 2.5-3-3 dual channel kit, and that was actually really stable at 2300mhz, maybe because I gave it 0.2v extra DIMM voltage than what the RAM was rated???

I guess I'll find out tomorrow when the RAM arrives anyway, but it would be useful to find out this info. :)

Thanks very much!

Voltages are set by the motherboard, not the RAM, and I've never heard of one that automatically overvolts (as that could be dangerous if the RAM isn't designed for operation at >2.6V).

The RAM should be running at 2.75v shouldn't it? What happens if the motherboard doesn't set the voltage to that?
