RAM Upgrade

I just got my HP L2000, and it's great...I ordered it with just 512mb or RAM thinking that I could upgrade it for cheaper than HP wanted...$50...I can upgrade for cheaper, but here is my question: Should I buy RAM with the same chips (Infineon), or just buy a stick (which is cheaper)...Will the Dual Channel work if the actual chips on the RAM are different? In short: which is better? To buy a stick with the same chips (actually match the sticks), or not worry about it? Thanks...

its always safer to go with the similar memory because then you're 100% sure that there wont be any imcompatibility issues. however, i have tried different memories and they have worked fine in one of my older PCs. of course if you're running a pc2700 memory and a pc3200 memory then both will by default be clocked down to the lower of the two, and i believe that goes for the memory timing as well, but not sure about the latter. hope this helps 🙂

Yeah, I was gonna go all 2700...Thanks...I think I'm just gonna find a stick and not worry with matching it...Anybody else have any thoughts?

It is also rumored that Turion w/Radeon XPress 200M chipset supports DDR 400. If you want to find some CL2.5 DDR400 that will give you the best performance; but in all reality 1x1GB DDR 333 is great and cheap.
