I have an Abit IS7 and I have a stick of 256 ddr400 Kingston value in dimm 2 and dimm 4 spot. They are on dual channel. If I were to add a stick of 512 (same kind has my 2 sticks of 256) in either dimm 1 or dimm 3 would I still have dual channel ram? Also will I have any compatibly problems?

No, he already has 512MB (2 x 256). Adding another 512MB would give him 1GB single-channel.
How? If he has a DC board, and two DIMMs, he isn't able to add any more and not use both channels. Period. They are separately traced and soldered. It will be 1GB DC. It will probably be better to have 2x256 on one, and 1x512 on the other, though.
