Buying this mobo:

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Athlon/XP, DDR400, 8X AGP

in specs it states: "- Memory
Dual-Channel DDR 400
3 x 168-pin DIMM Sockets
Max. 3 GB unbuffered PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC DDR RAM Memory (Twinbank)"

Does this mean SDRAM?? At newegg I want to buy:

Kingston ValueRAM Dual Kits 184 Pin 512MB(256MBx2) DDR PC-3200

but it says it's 184 pin. Does this mean that it's not compatible with my mobo? Which types of ram can my mobo take?? I really need to understand the RAM situation. Thanks a bunch!

Yup, its DDR-SDRAM. That kingston valueram will work fine. And BTW, welcome to the forums.:)

So the 184 pin/ 168 pin disparity between the mobo and the RAM doesn't matter?? I just got kinda confused, but that's good it will work. But thankyou for the welcome! :)

That sounds like a mis-print, if you check Asus' site you find that:

- 3 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 3GB PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory
- Dual Channel Memory Architecture

The 168 pin that is stated in the motherboard specs must be an errror, it is actually 184 pin. 168 pin is for SDR SDRAM which basically transmits one chunk of data per clock cycle (Single Data Rate) while the 184 pin socket is for DDR SDRAM (Double Data Rate, transmits twice per clock cycle). The RAM you want to buy will fit that mobo for sure.
