Ram Too Slow

I know hardly anything about ram and timings and all that.

My computer scores 5.9 on all of the Windows Experience Index test in Vista except for ram. Ram is 5.7

Here's my setup.

Q9300 @ 2.85ghz
Asus P5N-E
8GB DDR2 800mhz Centon
2 x 640gb WD's Raid 0

I've seen a few of my friends computers score 5.9 on the memory test with slower setups. I know it's probably nothing to worry about but I figured I might as well see if I can manually set the ram. The ram is now all set on auto except for the voltage. Ram volts has to be manually set to 2.42v or it isn't stable with 8gb.

2.4V??? Are you serious? Prepare to buy some new RAM soon, you are killing your sticks.

Anyway, Vista isn't that good with the scores. Don't worry too much about it.

A suggestion for stability: Perhaps you can increase the northbridge voltage instead of the RAM volts.

First, ignore the Vista score. It is a pointless number.

Second, as noted, lower your memory voltage. I don't know the exact specifications of your memory but, you should NEVER need more than 2.1v to do DDR800. 1.8v - 2.1v should be fine.

Third, try adjusting the memory controller, aka SPP voltage. IIRC, 1.53v on that board does well for 4 modules.

You really shouldn't be exceeding 2.2v for ram, unless you feel like buying new ram every few months.
You should be running it at what the manufacture suggests; then increase the northbridge voltage by .01 or .02 sames with 8GB your probably populating all 4 DIMM slots.

nobody cares about vista experience numbers. if your PC is running fine to YOUR standards then its fine.

all you need is to run it 1:1 with your FSB and you're fine. its probably, 200,266, or 400mhz
