RAM Stability Test

I'm having trouble with DOOM3; It just randomly crashes and sends me back to my desktop.
I'm assumeing its the RAM.
Either its bad or by BIOS settings are to high (RAM timings set to "Turbo", but I changed them back to "Optimal").
Can someone direct me to a link where I can download a RAM stability test such as Prime95 or Memtest86.
I don't know if those are good, but I've heard of them.
Any other recomendations would be nice too. Thank you.

Okay I got both Prime95 and MemTest86

How do I use them?

I know they come with readme files, but its far to much for me to read or comprehend.

Can it be sumed up alittle easier?

I am assuming you have a windows operating system.

Unzip the latest memtest file from the following page.
http://www.memtest86.com/
Place a floppy in your floppy drive (it will be erased).
Double click on install.bat in the memtest unzipped folder.
The floppy will be written.
Make your computer bootable from the floppy if it is not already.
Reboot with the floppy in the floppy drive.
Let it run overnight.

If you get errors, you need to reduce memory overclock or relax memory timing, or increase memory voltage (one step at a time) or reduce memory temperature and re-run the test.
Keep doing this until you can run the test overnight with no errors.

Download the latest version of prime95 from the following page.
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
Double click on the .exe downloaded file.
It will install prime95 on your machine.
Run prime95.
Click on "Options" and "Torture Test".
Click OK.
Let it run overnight.

If the test has stopped, you need to reduce the CPU overclock or increase the CPU core voltage (one step at a time) or reduce the CPU temperature and re-run the test.
Keep doing this until you can run the test with no errors overnight.

If your RAM and CPU are stable and you still have crashes, you need to reduce your graphics card overclock or improve the cooling on your graphics card.

You need to have patience.

Memtest86 has been running for about 9 hours now on my desktop. Do I have to stop the test manually? What should I check for specifically? If I have no errors at the "optimized" ram timings, do I try "aggressive"? Thank you.

Hit escape. :p Remove the floppy, too.
If it shows at least 2 under "Pass" your memory is fine.

LOL, 2 passes? That only takes like 20 minutes. Theres options at the botoom of the screen for configuration, scroll lock, and scroll unlock? Do I need to bother with any of these?

Ideally, you want to have no errors and only passes.
If that is the case, move along to running prime95 to see if your CPU has a problem or not.

Your memory timings and voltage and frequency and your CPU frequency and voltage must all be set to whatever they are set at when you play Doom3 and have difficulties.
Otherwise, running all of these tests would be a pointless exercise.

i hope you dont need to post here if you're going to the toilet and need help w****g your *** :)

ok.....j/k :)

Prime95 should have an option 'torture test'.....just run this for a few hour..shouldnt bring up any errors...you can ignore all the other docs.

memtest...well you just create a bootable CD/flopy.....throw it in and let it run a bunch of tests...a few hours....also shouldnt come up with any errors
