If I throw, lets say, PC3700 DDR ram into a main board, will it just underclock the RAM from 466mhz to 333mhz...or will it be incompatible?

depends on your board but it might not register the ram at all. if it does it will underclock it to what the board will handle. What motherboard do you have? you also might want to read up and see what ram slots you need to put that memory in. some boards only have certain ram slots you can put that high speed DDR in.

Yes, it will just run the RAM at a lower speed.

RAM has no "clock" as such. The PCxxx designations simply indicate the maximum rated guaranteed speed of RAM.

i just wanted to make sure because im just going to go ahead and by 3700 speed ddr ram and the mobos now only support like 3200, or at least the ones i was looking at.

so theres no harm, at least ill have the ram for future mobos that can utilize it

How fast can a P 2.4 @ 533 FSB handle? is it 533?

What's the fastest out there? (not neccescarily brand, but speed)
