Ram Questions

Hi,
Some questions about ram performance. I plan on getting a p4 1.6a and a asus p4s533 motherboard. I only really care about overclocking to 2.4 ghz levels.

so,
1. is there a noticeable diff in perforamnce between pc2100 and pc2700 ram?
2. and is there a diff. between 256 and 512 mb of ram?
3. and basially, how imortant is the ram in overclocking.

thanks

I'll try to answer your questions for ya...

1) Generally, pc2700 is stable to a higher FSB than pc2100 (but not always, depends on the RAM)

2) Obviously there is a 256Mb difference (which is noticeable) between 256 and 512, but 256 would probably be easier to overclock.

3) RAM is as imprtant as anything else. Your cpu is not the only thing in your system that gets overclocked. Your RAM, video card, sound card, network card, HDD, all get overclocked as the system bus increases. Each one of these components must be able to perform at that speed, or you will have an unsuccessful overclock.

BTW, If you can afford it, re-work your system around an RDRAM set-up, instead of DDR. The P4 really needs the extra bandwidth to shine...

Hope that helped 🙂
