I have an ASUS P5Q Pro Ordered. This motherboard accepts 512Mb to 4GB unbuffered non-ECC DDR2 DIMMS. The System Bus is 1600 / 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz. I have a Intel e6600 Core 2Duo.
I am inclined to order the Crucial 4GB kit (2GBx2) 240-pin DIMM,DDR2,PC2-8500, CL-7 memory module. This is a good buy and I have had good luck with Crucial. Would someone tell me if I am about to order the wrong RAM. Thanks

The "matching speed" of RAM for your processor at stock speed is DDR2-533. DDR2-800 is just as widely available and just as cheap in most cases, so there's no harm in going for the slightly faster RAM.

Overall though, RAM speed has a negligible impact on performance except in very specific applications. Even if you're planning to overclock, DDR2-800 would have enough headroom to take your E6600 up to 3.6GHz, if your chip and motherboard will go that far.

Considering how cheap DDR2-800 is after rebates these days, I wouldn't bother with 1066 unless the deal you're getting is crazy. Even if you do buy the PC2-8500, it's likely to run at PC2-6400 unless you manually set the speed.
