RAM question

Which will provide better performance: 2x512Mb or a 1Gb stick? Also, if I upgrade to 2 gigs of ram in the future will the 2x512Mb sticks be a problem? I plan on using Corsair value select.

I appreciate any suggestions.

just get 1 stick of 1gb now and add another stick of 1gb later...
performace wise 512mb x 2 should be a bit better but nothing noticiable..

Unless you have a pentium, then go with 2x512.

qft, but....even at that I still would rather have the 1 1GB stick because for the newwer games you need 2 gb of RAM, and adding a nother 1GB stick later is much easier. If you don't game (the newwer ones) then 2*512 adn be done with it. Unless of course you do video editing or something but I assume if you do that then you know you need a sh!t load of RAM already.

512 sticks oc a little better than 1gb sticks.
Howeer if you intend to use Vista you will require 2gb of ram .

Vista does not require 2GB of RAM, don't be silly.

Well 512b to run the OS..That's fine if you don't do anything else..games, video& multmedia stuff..etc,

Also the progrrams you will see in the near near future especially for 64bit will be mmory intsive.
anyway more ram is beter i all situations., 2gb iis a min standard these days especially for gamers and video editing.

Get 1GB stick, you won't regret it 6 months from now. G-skill has some CAS 2.5 DDR 400 1GB sticks for around $90-100, with nice blue heatspreaders.

i have 2x512 of the same corsair value memory...looking at my pc specs in my sig, can i add another 2x512? some people were saying that its not possible to have 4 sticks of memory. Thanks in advance

As long as you add the same sticks...and you have 4 slots..

Of course you can.

they were saying something of the bios not recognizing all the memory or something...maybe i just misunderstood

There is no harm i updating your BIOS although it should not b necesarryas you are only going to 2gb in 4 slots.
There are somtines issues with 4gb and win XP not seeing 4gb ,.

You should keep the bios updated anyway.

Buy your memory in pairs.

apparently vista requires 1gb of ram,
reccomends 2gb

sortof how in xp they require, what 128 or so and basically require 256mb or more.
