Ram Question

I was looking into getting some Ram for my new rig and while the concepts of timings are somewhat foreign to me, I do have a slight grasp on what they mean as far as comparisons between them go. If I understand this right, CAS latency is the most important of the group and I was recommended to look for Ram with a mark of around 2 for this and I've found two modules that I'm considering but I'm confused on one thing.
This corsair ram:

and this OCZ ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146890
I guess my question is, what?s with the last number in the timing ranks on the corsair memory? It's 2-2-2-5-1 and I don?t understand what that extra one means?~!. I dunno, if someone could explain this to me I'd appreciate it and maybe shoot some recommendations as to which would be better based on specs and personal experiences with them.

If your new rig is an a64, THIS THREAD is a "must" read when consider purchase of ram.

HERE'S a prsentation by Corsair on aspects of ram. There are many others which can be found by using Google too.

Hope these help,

haha don't order from TD, they suck

I've never understood what is the problem with TD... I've ordered products from tigerdirect.ca many times and have never received products late or had any other problems.

I've never understood what is the problem with TD

Mine has just been their prices and "small print"

Every time I've checked them (prices), they were high. May just be what I was shopping for at the time.

I also checked them once for a BBA 9800pro. For some reason they only offered a one-yr warranty when they usually come with a 3 yr. TD wanted you pay extra for that (which have been standard). I.e., watch the small print with them.

if not overclocking, go with the RAM with the lowest timings. That OCZ Plat. Rev. 2 is some good stuff.

If overclocking, go with the RAM that's going to give you the highest frequency for your RAM while still maintaining at least 2.5-3-3-8-1

My OCZ "Value VX" is running 225mhz 2-2-2-5-1 @ 3v. It will do 240mhz with 2.5-3-3-8-1. I'm hoping it can go higher when I bump the voltage to 3.3v

If you're gonna overclock and are willing to tinker with voltages, look into the OCZ Value VX, it's $50 less than the Plat. rev 2 and offers similar performance with the correct voltages and timings.

If not, that Plat. Rev 2 will serve you nicely.
