The system comes with 256.
I have been working on it for 2 days straight and its oka.

I initially wanted to upgrade to the 1gb stick, but I've read some sites that say that the 512 stick is enough.

I plan to play with photoshop, and itunes, and lots of safari windows at once.

Do you think 512 will cut it? Or should I get the full 1gb just to be safe?

Comments, opinions welcome.
-thanks guys,

1GB is overkill, IMO. I've run OS 10.3.7 sucessfully on a 350Mhz G3 with 384MB of RAM and had a bit of slowdowns, but nothing major.

I think you should be fine with 512. It's kind of hard to compare a PC to a Mac, but I'm running 512 on a 2.8 P4 and I run a lot of stuff at once without any performance problems. Obviously it's gonna be different with a Mac, but I thought they were supposed to be more efficient with the way they use their hardware, so 512 should be fine.

I would get AT LEAST 512MB if you plan on actually using OSX. It behaves beautifully with at least 512. I work with them every single day and I can tell you for a fact that it will crawl with 256 compared to 512.

If it tells you anything, I put 640MB in my ibook.

My work Mac (G4 1.25Ghz) has 512MB. Usuable but more is always better.

I use it for about 5% Photoshop or video, 25% email/Office/Internet, 30% Dreamweaver, 40% remote desktop to either our XServes or Win2003 servers.

You won't find much in the way of Mac buffs anywhere on Anandtech.

While I disagree that it was in the wrong forum (because quite frankly, no one here likes Macs), I also disagree that oldsmoboat is an idion, idiot, or post-whore. I believe that the tables have turned and now you are the "idion" not only for that post, but also for buying a Mac Mini and then coming here for help.

back on topic...

if you're doing lots of photoshop, the more the better.

I've maxed out both my physical ram and pagefile using photoshop before, though that was on a PC

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.
I know of nowhere else to go to for a non-biased opinion than my favorite forums.
I will be going with the 1 gig stick.

oh, and aplefka
I came here for opinions, not help.
& you're right, I'm an "idion"

peace out.

1 Gb if it won't break the bank. 512 should be good as well.

anand suggested no less than 512mb for mini or any osx mac. it uses memory caching a lot.
