RAM Problem

ASUS Motherboard A7V266-E. third ram slot (4-5) populated with 256M DDR. The same DDR strip will not work in slot 1 (0-1) or 2 (2-3). Does anyone know what the problem can be?

Bad motherboard, maybe?

Things I have tried:

Underclocking the processor; turning off the cache; adjusting the Voltages; reducing the freq to 100; DDR still does not work in the first two slots.

Has anyone heard of the problem before?
