What's the deal with RAM prices?

Man, they're going up like crazy. Ahh, good old holiday seasons.

Are they?

BB just had 256Mb of Crucial PC2100 for $35 after rebate, so I assumed they were coming down.

You have to disregard the fact that you can only get one for that price.

Last time I checked a micron/micron PC2100 256 was around $72 or so.

You're right, I have been meaning to pick up some extra RAM and put it off, now the price of the memory I wanted to get, 256MB of DDR PC2100 RAM went up by almost $30.00. That'll teach me for procrastinating I guess. :(:disgust:

I'm still sitting on a shitload of PC 2100 256MB sticks of Crucial I got for $27 ea. At the time everybody was waiting for the price to go lower. Eat your hearts out.

There's a shortage and it'll get worse as we approach the Holidays. Looks like I'll stick with buying from FST

Please, there is no shortage, Micron is just trying to dry up the market so the prices will go up. Hynix is pumping it out as fast as they can and Micron is now suing them, saying they are flooding the market. I am sorry, but when I can get a Athlon XP 2000+ cheaper than a good slab of 512mg DDR, thats called price fixing.

To add: Hold off as long as you can from buying new ram, if you need some check out the FSforum, and when the price comes down again stock up and sell your extra in the FSforum when prices go up. I got all my ram when prices were low. The only ram I will buy now is if it is really cheap like after a GOOD rebate(this excludes BestBuy)
I have 768mg of Reg. ECC Crucial ram. and that will just have to hold me :)

People hold off on it. If everyone held off which they won't, but the prices will come down eventually. So hold off.

I bought a PC2100 512MB dimm for $83 shipped from Mushkin a few months back. I wanted to get a PC2700 C2 stick now, but forget it. I'll buy a video card maybe instead. I'm so sick of the RAM industry fixing market pricing. There's just no way the fluctuations should be so dramatic every 3 mos.

I noticed this afternoon that Crucial took down the $25 online instant coupon for the 256MB module that I wanted to get. It's been offered for months, and it was up just last night when I posted my earlier reply, and today, poof, it's gone. No way in hell I'm paying $109.79 for it.

I had a good day and I got an option on 1000 sticks of Micron/Micron 256 PC2100 for.....much cheaper than the web rate. :)
