I know what you mean, I was going to buy a new machine, one that was going to be cheap, but quick! Now I cant do jack. I dont have $70-$160 to pay for RAM...
What really gets me are people who say its not expensive, its just back to what it should be... Now I know that comodities fluctuate in price, but anytime there is a 200% increase, thats outrageous... especially when you have no money! I kinda wished that the prices wouldn't have dropped as low as they had, maybee stayed around $40 for 256MB, maybee then they wouldn't be as high as they are now...

With all these replies about be glad that it wasn't x years ago when x MB of EDO/SDRAM was $200, should I remind you that windows 3.1 ran fine at idle with 4MB, Windows 95 with 8MB, Windows 98 with 32MB, crappy-@$$ Windows Me with 64, Windows 2000 with 128, and Windows XP with 256. Catch my drift?

<< and the Intel se440bx won't use the 256 sticks. >>

777joee,

The BX chipset works just fine with 256MB sticks. Unless, of course, you happen to have an Abit board. Then it's a crapshoot.

Agreed. I got into the OEM market back when RAM was $2/mb. Even then, it would be considered inexpensive historically. True, ram is the higest-markedup piece in a computer, considering that you could get 64 mb SDRAM on a VGA card, plus the GPU, and DVI for less than a 256mb stick of DDR. Seriously, what do you think is a more complex component? The GPU or the RAM? Obviously you are paying for the GPU in that case.
