RAM prices have gone CRAZY! UPDATE on crucial ram prices!

1 example of this would be:

-Crucial ram prices used to be like:
256mb DDR $28-35
256mb SDRAM $28-$30

-NOW! the prices have flew up to:
256mb DDR $88
256mb SDRAM $83

This is over triple the price it used to be!
Nowawadays $80 a 256mb stick is like wow cheap!
r there any explainations for this to happen?
i heard the factory was threatening to stop making the ram, so crucial offered to buy them at higher prices...
any other stories? :|

It could be worse... Much worse... Crucial is pretty quick to raise their prices unlike other suppliers. Go elsewhere for your memory needs. Hopefully the price will tank again this summer.

This sucks...I just told my dad my step sister's memory will run about $75. I guess I'm glad I already have a spare stick, but I was counting on that for my wife's PC.

Here's hoping for sub $50 256 ddr this summer. I would think as pc2700 becomes more desirable for the 333 boards, the pc 2100 should fall a decent bit.

Yep, those are some crazy-ass prices. I just score 3 sticks of DDR in the FS/T forums, 256 megs for $50 and 256 + 128 megs for $45. Guess I'll need to call the pope and have him make those 2 traders saints or something like that🙂

well if u didnt realize it, when ram prices were: 256mb DDR $28-35
256mb SDRAM $28-$30

they were losing tons of money. so much money that the #3 ram maker Hynix went bankrupt, and after they went bankrupt ram production dropped rapidly, and therefore less supply means higher prices

Brag and Moan:

Last month I got two 256 MB Crucuial PC2100 from Best Buy for $50.

2 * (34.99 - 10 rebate)

Sorry, I had to brag.

Ah, you huys are SPOILED! I still have some old 40-pin memory from the 486 days that I payed $40/meg for.

Do you realize that would be over $10,000 for 256 megs!!!!!

Anyway, to get a feel for RAM prices, drop by Pricewatch and see a summary of RAM prices on their home page. CAVEAT: when ordering from Pricewatch vendors, pay attention to the posted shipping prices. Some vendors try to show proves low to get high in the listing, but then rape you on shipping.
