Ram or Video

I have a friend who recently put together an AMD Athlon 2500 Mobile (oc'd to 2.4Ghz). He has pretty decent parts (ABit NF7-S mobo and an Antec Truepower PSU). All in all a good foundation. As we were talking today he was wondering though, what to upgrade first.

He has Kingston VR 512Mb (single stick) and a GeForce 4 Ti4200 (8x, 128MB). My thoughts were on the RAM, bump it to 1Gig, but he seems to be pretty set on buying a better graphics card. Gaming will be his primary use of this system (though it should be writing school papers 😉)

Thoughts? He is on a very limited budget, so bang for buck is important. That is why his system is what it is today: a great foundation for an awesome system, just a few pounds short 🙂

Thanks for your input!

Something like a 9800pro will make a bigger difference.. but it'll cost more than another 512mb ram. I'd go with the ram, now isn't the best time to buy video cards anyway.

depends what game hes playing. If its new he needs ram and on the other hand if its new than hes gonna need a new vid. Tough call.
