RAM or MB problem

When I bought my motherboard (Asus A7V), I bought a 128MB PC133 dimm from Crucial to go with it. Later I bought another 128MB dimm, also PC133. I tried installing it. Seemed to work ok at first, but then my computer started acting really weird and crashing. I lost some data because my FAT got corrupted. All in all it was an ugly situation. So, I sent the memory back, wiped my OS drive, fixed the other drive, and reinstalled Win98. I got the replacement dimm a few days later, but was afraid to install it until I got a CD burner to back up the data I was able to save. Well, I recently got that burner and backed up my stuff. So tonight i tried installing that replacement dimm.

As soon as I rebooted, it went through the POST routine and when it got around to starting windows I got an error (i know, i know.. i shoulda wrote it down) saying something about needing to run Scanreg and there not being enough memory to load the registry. I took this as a bad thing. So I shut it down and pulled the dimms out. I put just the new dimm back in by itself. It booted up fine. So now I'm thinking it isn't the RAM, but maybe the second dimm slot is fragged. Is there anything I can do about that? Can I put the dimm in the 3rd slot? Any way I can use both dimms without replacing my motherboard? Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, try that RAM in DIMM slot 3 by itself and see what you get then try putting the other stick of RAM in DIMM slot 1 and boot up again and see what you get. It is entirely possible that DIMM slot 2 is hosed.🙁
